Lucy Montague Moffatt

Name: Lucy Montague Moffatt

Lucy Montague-Moffatt is a 23 year old writer, comedian and student from Dublin. She has a poem and short story featured on the ebook Wordlegs Presents: 30 under 30 available on Amazon and a short story in the recently published collection 30 Under 30 and The Bohemyth. She was one of the winners of the Fishamble: Tiny Plays. She was commissioned to write the first year play for Inchicore College of Further Education last year, which was performed in March 2012 and has been commission to write the play this year too. She was a Funny Woman Competition 2012 finalist. She wrote and performed two comedy shows as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2011. Lucy is currently a columnist for the UCD Observer.

I have been a writer for as long as I can remember. When I was eight I wrote a series of short stories about a group of girls who called themselves ‘The Animals’ and went around their neighbourhood beating people up. Obviously this was either the first sign of creativity or first sign for my parents to stop me watching Gladiators. Since then I have been writing anything that can be written as much as possible.

I enjoy writing short fiction as the smaller length gives you more time to explore the words you are using and who the character really is. I love how so much can be found in what is not said.

When I write comedy I need to be in completely different mood than when I am writing short stories or plays. This can be annoying when I really need to get a funny script written or the deadline for my column is approaching and I just cannot muster the strength to be witty. Sometimes I try to write serious content but end up writing comedy unintentionally. Once I wrote a short story I thought was really sad and all the people who gave me feedback for it said it was “so funny”. Oops!

My ultimate dream is the write a comedy sitcom for TV. I am working on a number of pilots at the minute and am doing a lot of research in the form of watching television. It is not procrastinating, it is work! I am also always working on some kind of novel but never have enough time to dedicate all my time to it, especially since I am back in college this year. Maybe one day, when I am working in a writer’s room for a sitcom I created, I can find time in-between series to write novels. That would be lovely.

Crowerd Joseph Robinson

Name: Crowerd Joseph Robinson

Age: 24

Bio: Crowerd Robinson was born in Atlanta, Georgia and now resides in Valdosta, just north of the Florida border. He spent much of his childhood in bed, reading stories of magic and horror and exploring the surrounding forest. Once he reached his teenage years he realized that his imagination wasn't like those around him; instead of diminishing, his childhood friends became more even more powerful. These friends would soon be called characters and his first story was published when he was a sophomore in high school. Since then, Robinson has lived a very eventful life, having been institutionalized twice, becoming a student of the occult, and still spending much of his time roaming the woods.

My Work: I am a storyteller. I grew up reading a wide array of writers and their influence has led me to commit incest with several genres. I have long been obsessed with the philosophy of the shadow self -- the belief that everyone has very dark, sinister desires that lie inside of them and a person will never become whole if they refuse to recognize this polarity. This is why much of my work is deemed extreme: I wish to provide an escape for these twisted thoughts through writing so others can do so by reading. Splatterpunk, shock horror, gore stories ... my tales have all been described as such. I write for those who are ostracized and forgotten, the youth of a society that has been led to believe that fear is something that demands control when really it should be embraced. Every story I spin is meant to convey madness and terror, along with meaning and compassion. After all, not all endings are happy ones.

Caitlin Hoffman

Name: Caitlin Hoffman
Aka: Taylor Adams (my alter ego- she co-edits Visceral Uterus, an e-zine)

Caitlin is bad at writing bios. She has written four novels, none of which are published, all of which are in dire need of editing. Aside from that, she tries to live as best she can but fears she's not very good at it.

My writing isn't so much an art as it is emotional regurgitation on paper. I can't be sure where the inspiration comes from, but often I feel I'm channelling a force that's beyond my understanding.
Through written word, I long to connect with my reader. I want to reach an area of their soul that was previously unknown to them. Make them feel something- maybe even make them feel better. I don't want to distract people from their problems with petty escapism. Rather, I'd like to commiserate with them through my words. If they're in pain or choking on self-disgust, if they're sufferring but don't have the words to explain it, I'd like to say it for them.

Brent Rankin

Name: Brent Rankin

Brent Rankin, fortunate or not, was born to a destiny. He was to be a writer. As a child, he wrote poetry, short stories, even a novel or two. These were childish things. At the University of Texas, he studied literature. He read the classics. He emulated them. Then came the time he had to put away childish things and become responsible. Life has its harsh lessons. Here and then, now and then, he wrote. Always that haunting in the back of his mind of “what if”.

When the time came, Brent retired from his chosen occupation. He had no regrets with that aspect of his life. He did well. Still, what if?

Then, it happened. His novella, “The fisher man,” was published as an e-book, available on Amazon, Booktango, and others. Two flash fiction pieces accepted by Linguistic Erosion, an intriguing ezine with imagination. And on and on and on.

Now, a childish wandering mendicant, Brent Rankin spends his time at his laptop, in the alleys where he lives, writing. And writing. And writing.

Devon Ellington

Name: Devon Ellington

AKA: Annabel Aidan, Cerridwen Iris Shea, Jenny Storm, Christiane van de Velde, and Christy Miller.

Devon Ellington publishes under a half a dozen names in fiction and non-fiction.  Her plays are produced in New York, London, Edinburgh, and Australia.  Her Jain Lazarus Adventures are published by Solstice, and she has a paranormal romantic suspense novel (as Annabel Aidan) with Champagne Publishing.  She’s published hundreds of articles and short stories, and teaches writing both online and in person.  She was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Cape Cod Writers Center, and is part of the writing team for the National Marine Life Center (www.nmlc.org).

I work from character first.  The character starts telling me the story, and I trust the character to take me through the first draft.  In subsequent drafts, I pull it all apart and re-structure it, so that the structure supports the story I want and need to tell.  What makes people tick fascinates me, and everyone has a story.  You just have to care enough to find it.  I’m a big believer in writing every day, no matter what.  If “life gets in the way” and you constantly make excuses not to write, you don’t want it enough.  There’s nothing wrong with that, but own it, and stop blaming external elements because you’re not writing.  If you want to write, you put your butt in the chair and write every day, no matter what else is going on.  You meet deadlines and keep commitments.  If that means the occasional all-nighter, that’ s what you do to get it done.  Writer’s block is a luxury that those of us who pay the bills by the pen don’t have.

Tyler James Gates

Name: Tyler James Gates

Tyler Gates exists barely in small town rural Midwest. His life is dotted with violent encounters with hillbillies, night jobs, alcohol binges, gas station explosions, and the occasional cult abduction. Besides pretending to be a writer he occupies his time with bouts of extreme paranoia and competition vomiting. Tyler is currently working on several novels about nothing and one about everything else.

Like almost everyone who dabbles in writing I have experimented with many forms and outlets over the years trying to find my medium. I can't say I've perfected my craft but I can say I've learned one thing; writing should be fierce, mean, unscripted, spontaneous, and personal. Besides several larger writing projects I have reluctantly taken on I most often enjoy writing flash fiction and short stories. With as busy as the world seems to have gotten it's great to be able to reach people; even if its just briefly. You can chew me out at gatestylerj@gmail.com.

Nikaan Matthew

NAME: Nikaan Matthew

I am a 20 year old student who currently studies Law with Business at Bangor University in North Wales. I grew up in Nottingham, United Kingdom and began writing poetry at the age of 17. At the moment I tend to write around the subject of love and passion but in the future I do hope to be able to expand my subject matter. I never write my poetry on paper and only ever use my laptop to write, whenever I try to write using paper my mind goes blank so I've stopped trying. In the future I hope to publish a collection of poetry entitled 'Droplets of Sunshine' sometime in the future, as well as writing a television sitcom and a fantasy novel, but for now I am just enjoying writing my poetry.

Short Paragraph about the art I do: My art is poetry. Most of my poetry tends to revolve around the themes of love and the different ways in which it can be viewed. When writing I try not to overload on description as I believe that if you let the readers imagination create the images in their head then the poem can have a longer lasting effect. Therefore simplicity is always at the core of everything I write, however I always try to move the reader in a way that they have never felt before.

Jesse James Campen

Name: Jesse James Campen

I am a working student from Maryland, and like to write specifically to entertain. I am currently attending Full Sail University to get my Creative Writing For Entertainment BFA. I like story telling in all forms, including stories from video games and themed music albums.

Right now, the only sort of art I’m involved in is creative writing. More particularly, I like writing sci-fi and fantasy stories, but I’ll settle for anything that makes someone think or laugh too. My technique doesn’t vary from many other writers’. I write a lot, then I edit a lot. One thing is for sure though: I dislike typing, so I write in my pad before typing it all out on my computer.

Benjamin F Jones

Name: Benjamin F Jones

Benjamin F Jones is a writer working in South Wales. He loves pizza, photography and moist clay. When it rains he catches drops in his open mouth. He creates prose poetry, flash, absurdist snapshots and humorous fiction. He spends some time clearing up after a small girl and selling screws. Photography is his hobby but writing is his passion.

I love writing which carries language into places it hasn’t been before. I like absurd ideas, which is probably one of the reasons I enjoy writing prose poetry. Prose poems and flash have a freedom that allows them to take flight. I love their ability to encapsulate a whole world in less than 500 words. I have experimented with cut-up but as my writing matures I find my work is more about communication. My earlier works were like puzzles that needed to be solved – now I have a need to connect emotionally with the reader.

I am currently working on a series of prose poems about my experiences as a full-time father in the Rhondda. These pieces will form a portfolio which I hope will get me into university to study prose poetry at MPhil level. I hope this qualification will enhance my career as a writer and enable me to teach creative writing. I would love to hear from anyone passionate about prose poetry, flash or writing in general.

Erika Dawn Price

Name: Erika Dawn Price

AKA: Processproduct

Erika D. Price is a social psychologist, writer, and eternal student living in Chicago, Illinois.  She began writing fiction after three years of reading and writing draining, dry academic prose for her graduate education, and her new found love of creative writing has saved her sanity. She writes all her first drafts on the Notepad app of her iPhone, which sounds insane but is actually quite a convenient way to bang out ideas on the go while simultaneously looking like a vapid, perpetually-texting woman-child. In her spare time she eats marshmallows and wanders around Chicago’s lake shore.

Short paragraph about the kind of art I do: I write fiction, and most of my 'work' falls into one of two camps: short, postmodern flash pieces that rehash or reimagine ancient myths, and longer, realist short stories about how human relationships and existential dread play out in a variety of modern settings. These two types of "work" that I write reflect my underlying philosophy of writing: Every story is either a retelling of myth or a roman a clef. We write what we know-- whether we know it from years of ingesting culture and storytelling tropes, or from our own emotional and moral struggles. When I write, I'm always trying to elicit two simultaneous reactions: A snort of snarky laughter, and a twinge of empathy in the gut. Hopefully, I occasionally succeed at those pursuits.

Here's some work that's been featured on Tumblr's edited 'Prose' tag: http://processproduct.tumblr.com/post/30249862554/the-impasse

And of course I'll be in Linguistic Erosion in October and Smashed Cat in December.

Jim Clinch

Name: Jim Clinch
Jim Clinch lives in Southwest Florida and writes novels and short fiction.  He is also a singer/songwriter.  Jim's novel "Canterbury's Tale" is a humorous mystery featuring a decidedly un-PC beach bum who gets in some big time trouble.  His short stories appear most recently in Linguistic Erosion and Bradburesque Quartely.
I seek to entertain wiith engaging, memorable characters and infectious dialogue.  My novel, which sometimes might seem just funny, is really intended to make the reader think about the anguish of the main character and how little we really know about people from the surface view.  My short fiction is usually a brain-tease, meant to force the reader out of a comfortable place.
I am happily married and the father of three grown children.  When not writing or playing music I like to fish and complain about the government to no one in particular.

John C. Mannone

Name: John C. Mannone (no pen names)

Bio:
I am Sicilian by heritage, Latin/Hispanic by place of birth, and a U.S. Citizen by legal birth. I am impassioned by science and mathematics and pursued a career as a research scientist and nuclear consultant. All very left-brain stuff. But when my right-brain came out of comatose, I started studying the craft of poetry in 2004 (and of flash fiction and the short story in 2008). With 300 publications, several awards, three nominations for the Pushcart Prize in Poetry and one for the Rhysling Poetry Award, I consider myself an emergent voice in poetry. I get excited about words as much as I do about equations. I am richly blessed for that. (You should know that I consider food another form of poetry )

I am the poetry editor of Silver Blade, a literary fantasy magazine, and an associate poetry editor for Abyss & Apex Magazine of Speculative Fiction. My editorial focus is found here: http://sixquestionsfor.blogspot.com/2011/08/six-questions-for-john-c-mannone-poetry.html

I write poetry and some short fiction. It is often literary, literary with speculative elements, or speculative with literary style and depth. In poetry, I favor free verse with that is rich in imagery, but also like conversational pieces that have impeccable rhythm and good line breaks. I eschew cut-up prose. My favorite short fiction ranges from micro fiction to the short short story (1000-2000 words), but my most comfortable range is flash fiction 300-600 words. They often have poetic swaths. My web page is The Art of Poetry, http://jcmannone.wordpress.com

Name: Acquanetta M. Sproule

Bio:

I am a Chimera.

I think.

Two identical twins that refused to either completely separate or fully reintegrate.

That's why the types of stories I write tend to be inversions of each other: Sweet to Creepy, Gleeful to Glum, Optimistic to Oppressive.

The middle is not a comfortable place for me, so I glide along side-lines and between facades.

Never fitting in, seldom wanting to.

I am a fabulous monster, prone to tales of impossible or foolish fancy.

Or just a middle-aged secretary who likes to write.

One or the other; both or neither.

Regardless, I tell a good tale.

John Domenichini

Name: John Domenichini

John Domenichini lives in Silicon Valley in California. His career trajectory has steadily involved more and more writing. In college he majored in Business, Education, and finally Linguistics. He taught English as a second language in the U.S. and Taiwan. In Taiwan, he also worked as a journalist. He’s currently a technical writer who writes fiction when he finds the time. He tries very hard to find the time.

A lot of John’s writing is motivated by prompts provided by a writing group that meets once a week. Also, from time to time, stories pop into his head while he’s doing other things. He enjoys experimenting with different writing styles, genres, etc. However, for the most part, he aims to make his writing accessible to the average person.

and disliking. He eats very little mayonnaise these days. Sometimes, someone sneaks it on to a sandwich, and then what can you do? Not that there’s no recourse, but he’d prefer not to make a scene. Though he does a fair amount of disliking, he really doesn’t care for it.

Status: Married, two step-children,
pulse usually just under 60, skill in parallel parking has not diminished over the years. Not as charming as some people, more charming than others. Still right handed. He hoped that he would become left handed slowly and naturally with age, but that hasn’t come to fruition, yet.

Matt Shaner

Name: Matt Shaner

I am a writer, father, husband, and hopefully soon to be full time English teacher living in the suburbs of Reading, PA. I met my wife in high school and we have a son with a second child arriving in December. I love reading and writing, movies and music, basically anything that can motivate me to create. This month I will start as a student in Fairfield University's MFA program in Creative Writing.

I have twenty-one short stories published online and in print including one selected for anthology. I also have a novel and novella available from Eternal Press. My writing is really a mix of genres. I have a sci fi novel, horror novella, literary fiction novel, and a number of other short stories that are making the rounds to publishers, magazines, and presses to find a home. I hate to hit the old cliche, but I loved reading and writing ever since I was little. In a stressful world it has always served as an escape and I think that every story can teach us something about life and our society. Stephen Gaghan, writer of the movie Traffic, said "all writers have a need to explain themselves to the world." This is my passion and my hope is that one day my son can say he is proud to call his dad a writer.

Chris Sharp

NAME: Chris Sharp

BIO: I was born in San Francisco in 1948. So I am at an age where I feel the need to make active defenses for hanging around and getting even older. The main players in my life have been women. In addition to my mother and my wife, they include my daughter and my wonderful previous wives as well as some of my passing acquaintances with some of the great women of the world. Jacqueline Onassis, Catherine Deneuve and Vanessa Redgrave are among those who have somehow been involved with and have inspired my professional writing and journalism. For many years I was a theater critic in New York City as well as once a president of the Drama Desk. I am spending my semi-retirement putting in part-time teaching in Southern California and writing whatever I want. I have many short stories all over the Internet archives, with.perhaps the best ones being found by Googling my name with “short stories.”

WHAT I WRITE: At an early age I was overwhelmed with the sound of Elvis Presley, where he brought into his own musical world the world of Chuck Berry and the African-American popular music of his day. In my own little way I write stories as a form of gratification to the great African-American writing in our time, such as that of Edward P. Jones, August Wilson and Toni Morrison.

MY EMAIL ADDRESS: LBloomsday@yahoo.com

LIKES: Edith Wharton, plus the writers named above. Plus so many things on the earth and in the sky I like that I can’t start to list them

HATES: Anything that is promoted as “free.”

Justine Dunn

Name: Justine Dunn

Aka: Justine M Dunn

Despite writing for some years now, Justine has only recently found the confidence to show her baby’s face to the world. She writes to release some of the bizarre thoughts that swirl around her tiny mind; some make it out, others should never be set free, the imagination is a wonderful thing. She is British, currently living in Slovenia and oozing with ideas.

She writes mostly quirky flash fiction, not quite science fiction in the usual sense but her stories skirt around the edges of reality. She also enjoys writing lighter stuff too, children’s rhymes are always a joy and more recently she has penned a few adult humor flash fictions. Her first novel, Beach Lanes, is finished at last and currently going through the editing stage. The second, she hopes, will make it out of her head and onto the keyboard very soon.

Deborah Livingston

Name:  Deborah Livingston

In her memoir, STRAND OF PEARLS, Deborah Livingston recounts her journey from childhood abuse, frequent tragedy and adult addiction to a spiritual transformation that brought her an inner peace and joy available to us all. Deborah was the first of three children born to parents--a Canadian father, a New England mother--who were worlds apart in their own upbringings and views of the world. From two to sixteen, when she was finally able to break free, Deborah suffered abuse at the hands of her father. Her freedom from that abuse took her to abuse at the hands of others, and to a tragic accident that cost the life of a friend. Her misfortunes early in life and her inability to see them as the "pearls" they actually were led to serious addiction in her early forties. And yet this addiction saved her life, preparing her for the inner transformation she would experience. In STRAND OF PEARLS to embrace Deborah Livingston invites the reader into the most painful, raw moments of her past so that the light of the present might shine brighter--as an invitation to others hope, faith and gratitude in their lives. Today Deborah Livingston lives with her loving husband, Joel, in Massachusetts, and is the proud mother of a college-age daughter, Cassandra. She is a practicing AOBTA-certified traditional Chinese medicine therapist, intuitive medium and believes in life's gifts whatever forms they may take.

Jack Caseros

{EAV:79aead42e46b9811}

Name: Jack Caseros

Jack Caseros is an ecologist who tells people at bars that he’s a writer. Then he says something clever, like, “I see poetry everywhere.” Which is, unfortunately, true. He currently resides in midwestern Canada. His first novel, Onwards & Outwards, is available as an e-book at most major online retailers.

Jack has also constructed an indie publishing organization, Kaleidoscope Reality. You can find more about Jack and Kaleidoscope Reality at: www.jackcaseros.webs.com.

Jack Caseros is the son of an Argentine and a Canadian, and this dual identity features strongly in his works—not explicitly, of course, because that would be boring. Jack’s work is rooted in the Hindu proverb “Unity in variety is the plan of creation.” Jack believes art is a mirror, and that this mirror is useful in conveying the spectrum of consciousness. But then again, Jack writes because he just loves it.

Some of Jack Caseros’ recently published works:

“Onwards & Outwards” (Kaleidoscope Reality: http://www.amazon.com/Onwards-Outwards-ebook/dp/B00760D4OG)

“Halfsies: An Essay on Canadian Identity by a Non-Canadian Canadian” (steelbananas: http://www.steelbananas.com/magazine/sb27/)

“positive space negative” (Eunoia Review: http://eunoiareview.wordpress.com/2012/03/07/positive-space-negative/)

"On Behalf of Every Writer Who Has Taken Inspiration From a Living Muse / On Behalf of Every Person Who Has Appeared, In Part or In Full, As a Character in a Piece of Literature" (Linguistic Erosion: http://www.linguisticerosion.com/2012/05/on-behalf-of.html)

Kwame Ivery

NAME: Kwame Ivery

BIO: I was born in the Bronx, NY and was raised in New Jersey. I have an MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University's Tisch School Of The Arts. My short story "Why Kristen Misses Push & Turn" will be featured in Smashed Cat magazine in August 2012.
WHAT I WRITE: I write short fiction that could be classified as bizarro, which is probably a fancy way of saying "weird."  My fiction presents reality, but it's a reality heavily laced with things that probably wouldn't happen in reality--pretty much the way reality looks in your dreams: you recognize it, but you don't recognize it. So in my stories you'll see pizza, but it'll be the kind of pizza whose cheese stretches through New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, etc.; you'll see a married couple, but one of them will have once been married to a horse; you'll see street vendors, but they will sell things like Geena Davis' tongue. That's what I write.
MY EMAIL ADDRESS: kwameivery@aol.com
FACEBOOK: I'm on it.
LIKES: Green skies and blue trees
HATES: Adam Sandler movies
