Kate Burns

Name: Kate Burns

My name is Kate, which is short for Kathleen.
I was born, raised and am still growing in Nashville, Tennessee. I am 22 years old and currently attending Nossi College of Art where I am working on my Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Illustration. My inspiration comes from old 2-D disney movies, bands such as Gorillaz, Weezer, and The Offspring, all sorts of different anime and manga (japanese comics and cartoons), different types of flowers and really just finding something simple but beautiful in life to draw in my sketchbook. As any artist out there, I love the idea of turning nothing into something, or just giving that blank piece of paper part of myself and showing people something that they didn't think would be on some ordinary piece of paper. A lot of the artists that inspire me right now are my past teachers and also the ones that continue teaching me at Nossi on a weekly basis. The main two would be Jeff Preston, for teaching me for a good two years and watching me grow. The second would be Arden von Haeger, who teaches me on a weekly basis and continues to boost my confidence on what I'm doing.
The artist that I grew up watching and truly aspire to be like are Walt Disney and Hayao Miyazaki.

For the art that I create, I prefer working with pen and ink, markers, colored pencils, acrylic paint, and digital media such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I draw with an anime style, mixed with a little Disney flare.
