Kathleen Radigan

Name: Kathleen Radigan

Kathleen Radigan is sixteen years old and currently resides in the tiny state of Rhode Island.  She reads as much as she possibly can and has scribbled fastidiously about characters and their worlds for as long as she can remember.  She loves imagining ridiculous things, songwriting, taking pictures, acting in plays and engaging in all other forms of creative mischief.

I switch art forms depending on my whims and I'm generally influenced by whatever I'm reading or listening to, but I adore anything whimsical, funny, and absurd. I believe that life abounds in absurdities, and love to find and exhibit them. My poetic process takes cues from the E. M. Forster quote "How can I know what I think until I see what I say?" in that I never really know exactly what I want to say until I write it down.  I have a hard time managing all the thoughts that are constantly spinning through my head and writing seems to be the best way to organize them.  I am inspired by tons of different artists including Regina Spektor, Sylvia Plath, Jonathan Safran Foer, Maurice Sendak, Jim Henson, Nicole Krauss, Ben Folds, e. e. cummings, Julie Taylmor, Augusten Burroughs and Roald Dahl.  I have learned so much from each of them, and also from the extraordinary people that I know.  People inspire me every day and make me want to express these things.  I believe art to be an evolutionary process and that we are in a state of perpetual growth and learning.  This is how we keep ourselves thinking freely, which to my mind is what art is all about.  I'm very excited by life a lot of the time, except when I'm being forced to understand math or take part in other such mundane tasks.  However, mostly the world is fascinatingly complex and beautiful, and I try to make that sentiment echo in all of the things that I create.
