Tom Andrews

Name: Tom Andrews
www.martinipen.blogspot.com

Tom Andrews (not his real name, for the love of God) lives in the urban wilds of Illinois with his wife, Shelly, and their two Australian Shepherds.  A native of Wisconsin, he has been writing since his tender youth and currently writes for a non-fiction market to put bread on the table and gin in the icebox.

Mr. Andrews lets down his proverbial hair on a daily basis to write flash fiction, however, and absolutely loves it.  Almost all of his stories stem from waking dreams of a sort, so any similarities to persons living or dead is purely intentional. Nadine Ducca Deharbe

Name: Nadine Ducca Deharbe

Contact e-mail address: nadinucca@hotmail.com

Education: Degree in Translation and Interpreting, Postgraduate Degree in Legal Translation, Master’s Degree in Medical Translation.

Likes: The usual. Spending time with family and friends, enjoying a good barbeque, shopping, traveling, reading and writing and of course my spoiled little brat of a cat.

Dislikes: Heartless individuals who find pleasure in torturing other living creatures –yes... I’m talking about YOU, matador. Oh, and pizza with tuna on it.

I’m a translator and interpreter specializing in legal and medical translation. Originally from Los Angeles, California, I moved to sunny Barcelona, Spain at a very young age. I currently work as an Exams Supervisor for Cambridge ESOL, which involves quite a lot of paperwork. As well as managing the Cambridge ESOL exams, I work part-time as an English teacher for the Open University of Catalonia (UOC).

Although writing has been my passion for as long as I can remember, I have had to put it off to take care of more pressing issues (mainly work and university). This year I’ve put my foot down and decided enough is enough; from now on I will force myself to write a little every day. It feels great! I have written pieces from a wide range of genres, though I feel most comfortable with science fiction and fantasy.

Since I made the decision to publish about a month ago, my work has appeared in The Fringe and Weirdyear and I am preparing more horror and science fiction pieces for publication. I am now working on the second draft of my first novel, a science fiction adventure entitled Making Time.

Laura Maddox

Name: Laura Maddox

I, Laura Maddox, was born in Charlotte, NC and am now a sophomore at Appalachian State University. I am an advertising major and creative writing minor. I spend a lot of my free time writing, which I love, and hope to one day work on a magazine staff. I enjoy writing poetry, blogging, drinking coffee, reading, watching movies and dreaming of one day living in NYC.

The writing I produce is largely fueled by imagination. Though I haven't experienced much yet, as a 19-year-old, I hope to have a love one day that can rival the love in my poetry pieces!

Kathleen Radigan

Name: Kathleen Radigan

Kathleen Radigan is sixteen years old and currently resides in the tiny state of Rhode Island.  She reads as much as she possibly can and has scribbled fastidiously about characters and their worlds for as long as she can remember.  She loves imagining ridiculous things, songwriting, taking pictures, acting in plays and engaging in all other forms of creative mischief.

I switch art forms depending on my whims and I'm generally influenced by whatever I'm reading or listening to, but I adore anything whimsical, funny, and absurd. I believe that life abounds in absurdities, and love to find and exhibit them. My poetic process takes cues from the E. M. Forster quote "How can I know what I think until I see what I say?" in that I never really know exactly what I want to say until I write it down.  I have a hard time managing all the thoughts that are constantly spinning through my head and writing seems to be the best way to organize them.  I am inspired by tons of different artists including Regina Spektor, Sylvia Plath, Jonathan Safran Foer, Maurice Sendak, Jim Henson, Nicole Krauss, Ben Folds, e. e. cummings, Julie Taylmor, Augusten Burroughs and Roald Dahl.  I have learned so much from each of them, and also from the extraordinary people that I know.  People inspire me every day and make me want to express these things.  I believe art to be an evolutionary process and that we are in a state of perpetual growth and learning.  This is how we keep ourselves thinking freely, which to my mind is what art is all about.  I'm very excited by life a lot of the time, except when I'm being forced to understand math or take part in other such mundane tasks.  However, mostly the world is fascinatingly complex and beautiful, and I try to make that sentiment echo in all of the things that I create.

Rachel Rubinstein

Name: Rachel Rubinstein
AKA: Ruby

Being only 16 years old, I'm still new to the world and still figuring out how it works. I'm a sophomore in high school, on the varsity cross-country team, and sing in the choir. Besides writing and photography, running is my hobby and my life! Some of my best ideas come to me when I run. I travel to many places with my family, my favorites being Australia, England, and Israel. I live in a suburb of Chicago, and I love the city! I hope to continue on to college and maybe finally be able to take creative writing classes. My favorite classes in school are the languages (I take EnglIsh, Spanish, and Hebrew) and chemistry. In my opinion, math is the worst subject known to man. Summer is my favorite season, and I love the beaches downtown on Lake Michigan.

I have been writing in a journal for as long as I can remember. My very first entries consisted of relating the day's events in my simple childish dialect and scrawl. Over time, my journal has evolved into a place where I can spill all of my thoughts without being judged, and I have begun translating those thoughts into poetry, I write what I cannot say out loud, and I usually begin my poems in my head while I'm out and about, or if a noteworthy event takes place in my life. Writing poetry is a way for me to make sense of my emotions, and only a select few of my friends know about my work. I hope to grow in my skill over time, and eventually I would love to have something of mine published.

I'm currently being educated at Chicagoland Jewish High School.

Likes: love, romance, writing (of course!), photography, running, swimming, skiing and snowboarding, candy, my community, my family, and Judaism

Dislikes: tuna fish, drama and other high school annoyances, rude people, and negative temperatures (the typical Chicago winter)

I'm currently in a relationship, and it's right at that point between teenage and adult. I'm figuring things out as I go along, and I love him dearly :].

Lastly, My advice to young writers : keep going, keep writing, and eventually you'll realize your amazing talent and potential (if you haven't already!). Share your work with others, they'll be dying to see. :]
